Yarn Bowl

Yarn Bowl

Time to take a break from dresses and POTTERY TIME. I took sculpture at my high school last year and my teacher was amazing! So amazing that this yarn bowl featured above was made by me! I never thought I could actually make something like that by myself! I made it for my mom’s birthday because she loooooves to knit! Now she can put the yarn in the bowl and pull it through without it getting tangled. And it looks awesome!

  1. Hey, this looks great! I’ve been looking at yarn bowls for a while and just threw a few bowls the other night that could potentially become this. When did you cut the swirl into the clay? Was it still pretty wet when you did it? I figured it needs to be done before it’s stone dry but wanted to ask someone who has done it, so I’m glad I stumbled on your blog post! Any advice would be great πŸ™‚

    • thank you!! After I made the bowl, I let it dry slowly for about 2 days with a plastic bag covering it before I cut the swirl! You want it to be able to be cut into, but not so soft that it’ll collapse! After you cut it out (be very careful!) let it dry a bit more before you trim the bottom. Then let it get bone dry and fire away! πŸ™‚ It’s been one of my favorite projects by far!
